Dystopian

Meaning:

Describing a place or world where life is very bad because of unfair rules or too much control.

    1984 is a dystopian story about a world where the government controls everything.

Totalitarian

Meaning:

Describing a government that has complete control over people’s lives.

    In a totalitarian country, people cannot speak freely or make their own choices.

Surveillance

/sɚˈveɪ.ləns/

Meaning:

The act of watching people closely, usually by the police or government.

    The government uses cameras for surveillance to watch people in public places.

Propaganda

/ˌprɑː.pəˈɡæn.də/

Meaning:

Information that is used to make people believe something, often not completely

    The government used propaganda to make people think the country was perfect.
