What is a Noun ?

A noun is used in a sentence to name a person, place, thing idea, qaulity, or condition.

In English, we have Countable and Uncountable nouns.

Let's begin with the COUNTABLE NOUNS

Countable Nouns

Countable nouns are things we can count. They can be singular or plural.

Singular: This means the noun is only one ( an apple, a car, a house )

Plural: This means the noun is above one that is two or more ( two apples, three phones, three houses )

Let's have a few examples in a sentence.

Examples:

I eat an apple.

She drinks a glass of milk.

We have two bananas.

Let's move to UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS

Uncountable Nouns

Uncountable nouns are things we cannot count directly.  They are always singular.

for examples: water, air , rice, coffee, juice etc.

Examples:

I drink water.

She eats rice.

We don’t have any coffee.

NOTE:

Singular countable nouns are used with "a" or "an" (an apple, a sandwich).

Plural countable nouns do not use "a" or "an" (two bananas, three cookies).

Uncountable nouns do not have a plural form and do not use "a" or "an" (some bread, some rice).

Check the pictures above for clarification.
