What is the Past Simple?
We use the past simple to talk about things that happened before, like yesterday, last week, or last year.
Form (for regular verbs):
Subject + verb + -ed
I visited my friend.
They played football.
She watched a movie.
Irregular Verbs:
Some verbs change completely in the past. These are irregular verbs.
Base Form--Past Form
go/went
eat/ate
have/had
see/saw
take/took
Negative Form:
Use didn’t + base verb (no -ed).
I did not (didn’t) go.
She didn’t eat pizza.
They didn’t watch TV.
Question Form:
Use Did + subject + base verb?
Did you go on vacation?
Did he visit his family?
What did they do?
Example
